Study Skills is a semester long course taken for a half-block every other day. It is a credited course for freshmen entering Bellows Falls Union High School, and it will provide a quarter credit (elective) towards graduation, and it is paired with Pathways. This is the guidance component to make up the other quarter credit. Study Skills will be assessed in three areas. These areas are classroom participation (60%), binder/journal management (20%), and quizzes/tests (20%). This course will develop skills required to face a rigorous and demanding academic life in high school.

Health 1 is a semester long required course for ½ credit, taken by freshmen and sophomores.In this course we cover many topics broadly.The course consists of the units: wellness, emotional wellness (self-esteem, stress, communication styles), nutrition (basic facts, eating disorders, and food labels), drug information (alcohol, legal and illegal drugs, and tobacco), and family life (STD’s, pregnancy, and sexuality).In each unit, basic information is covered and students get to pick a unit project to learn more about a chosen area.Health related current events are also covered through weekly assignments.

Health II is a semester long required course for ½ credit, taken by juniors and seniors.The Health II curriculum will cover fewer topics but in greater detail than in Health I.Examples of a few issues covered would be current health issues, abuse cases, or consumer health.We will also examine how different areas of health interact with one another.We will read books, watch videos, discuss, and write about the different issues.

The behind the wheel component will consists of strictly F2F. Each student will have six hours of actual driving time as well as 18 hours of observation experience. Driving times will be scheduled to run concurrently with the successful completion of each classroom unit. Driving classes will be two hours long with groups of four students. The group of four students will be scheduled for one two hour driving session each week for twelve weeks.
The Traffic Safety Education Classroom Component is a hybrid online learning experince.The course will be 12 weeks in total and we will meet F2F every two weeks for one and one half hours . We will meet F2F on Friday afternoons from 3:00-4:30 pm in weeks 1,3,5,7,9,12 .
The parent involvement component will consist of three one and one half hour F2F sessiions. The F2F meetings will be on 4/9/07, 5/14/07 and 6/25/07 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. In addition to the three meetings each parent will provide 20 hours of documented practice driving which will include a driving log detailing the activities covered . Parents will be provided online information as to lessons covered on a week to week basis and are invited to log into the classroom and behind the wheel course components to see what thier son/daughter is learning for that week.
