Through this course students will study the media and its effect on their lives and the world around them. They will look at newspapers and television as well as radio, history and techniques in advertising, the book publishing industry, media ethics, censorship and the Internet. During the second half of the course, students will produce television programs to be aired on the local PEG Access station FACT-TV. Students will study the concepts of producing news stories, interviewing, operating video cameras, using computer editing software and script writing for broadcast.

WOMEN’S LITERATURE (3)

This course is an introduction to and close study of literature written by women from a historical and multicultural perspective. Students will be required to read a variety of works by and about women, including novels, short stories and poems. Through readings, lectures and discussion, students will analyze and interpret the text.

It is my pleasure to work with a population of students who are personally and academically motivated to meet and/or exceed the standards of the current AP course requirements. Available to all students, this course is for those who are willing and excited about an enriching, demanding, and rigorous approach to exploring and relating to the human experience through profound works of literature, writing, and discussion. This course offers an educational experience equal to what students can expect in a first-year college English course. The rigor of this course strengthens students’ writing and reading skills, preparing them for the AP exam and ultimately for college level expectations. Furthermore, it cultivates an appreciation for interpretive literature and the power of language.
